Our JLABS @ M2D2 story:
JLABS @ M2D2 is Johnson & Johnson Innovation’s initiative to advance scientific innovation in collaboration with the northeast region's premier medtech incubator, University of Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) in Lowell, Massachusetts.
JLABS @ M2D2 is our seventh JLABS innovation center and the first specifically focused on the early-stage medical device ecosystem. UMass Lowell’s M2D2 facility has been a lifeline for early-stage companies and medtech start-ups around Massachusetts since it was founded in 2007.
M2D2 and JLABS share a common vision to help early-stage medtech innovators move their concepts to commercialization for the patients who need them. M2D2 provides residents with assistance from industry leaders to bring ideas to market, including clinical pathway assistance, business planning, prototype development, and more. The JLABS model enables the talented scientists in the region to take their innovation to the next level in the medical device industry, furthering our goal of helping entrepreneurs advance science with the potential to become transformational solutions for patients.
JLABS @ M2D2 includes opportunities for BLUE KNIGHT™ residency. Blue Knight is a joint initiative between Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). The collaboration aims to stimulate the innovation and incubation of science and technologies that may improve health security and response by supporting companies focused on public health threats and emerging infectious diseases. Every JLABS laboratory facility features state-of-the-art lab instrumentation and equipment—what new resident and early stage startup medtech companies need to get up and running on day one.
This capital efficient model takes the time and investment needed for laboratory space out of the equation, eliminating the normal setup typically required of a start-up in medical technology. We even provide training on equipment like UPLCs, FPLCs, FACs, among others.
